Relief Food Distribution
Relief Food Distribution forms part of the We Care Community Development Assistance Program . It is a project through which the Church actively participates in feeding people affected by famine. Last year, the Church was able to distribute over 1000 bags of maize and beans to affected areas when rains failed and there was a famine in the land. Surveys showed that there was a severe food shortage in at least five provinces across the nation due to insufficient rains that resulted to 60% crop failure. Over three million people were affected by the famine.

The Church felt the need to heed to the government's call to bring resources together and respond to what the need was in the country. As a result, Bishop Mark Kariuki and a team from Deliverance Church Kenya were able to visit and distribute relief food residents in different areas in the Rift Valley, Eastern and Central Provinces.

In the Rift Valley Province, the team traveled through the valley to West Pokot bordering Turkana, Marakwet and Keiyo districts. This is a semi - arid that experiences uneven rainfall. The vegetation there is mostly dominated by shrubs and area residents are mostly pastoralists who depend on animal products, honey and wild fruits for food. The team stopped over Sigor and Kacheliba Constituencies where they met the Member of Parliament for Sigor, Hon. Philip Rotino who assisted in the distributing the food to some 14,000 residents in the two constituencies. The team then moved to Baringo North Constituency in Baringo District where they distributed food to some 5000 residents. Elementaita area in Nakuru district was also affected by the drought when the crop dried up due to failure of rains. Relief food was distributed to area residents. Marakwet District residents benefited from some 102 bags of maize donated by Dr. Benson Karanja and the Beulah Heights Bible College Community. Present to receive the food was the area Member of Parliament and Minister in the office of the Vice President, Hon. Lina J. Kilimo.

In the Eastern province, Bishop Mark Kariuki visited and distributed relief food to residents in Nguutani, Kambuu, Wote in Mwingi and Makueni Districts and Marimanti in Tharaka Nithi District. The places are quite dry. There were no signs of rains in the recent months. Most of the vegetation there was dry, green plants were scanty. Animals had not been spared either; they too were adversely affected by the brought. The drought had persisted for as long as three years in some of these areas hence area residents could not rely on agricultural products. Water is a challenge and residents have to walk for long distances to find it.

Mweiga and Makuyu districts also benefited from relief food during the distribution exercise. These are productive areas in the Central province that experienced food shortage when the rains failed.

The relief food distribution was made successful by Bishop Mark Kariuki and the Deliverance Church family together with his International friends who include Bishop T.D. Jakes and the Potter's House, Dr. Benson Karanja of Beulah Heights Bible College, Apostle Allan Vincent and the Texas Revival Network.
