| Deliverance Church HIV/AIDS Policy
Preamble Deliverance Church Kenya was founded in 1970 with a spontaneous group of 56 believers. The first churches were established in Mombasa, Kisumu, Murang'a and Kericho and have since spread to other parts of Kenya including Nakuru, Eldoret, Mt. Kenya and Machakos. The desire of the Deliverance Church leadership is to have an evangelistic congregation. This has resulted in the classification of churches into eight regions with about 10 - 15 congregations each, and are headed by regional overseers. To date, Deliverance Church has congregations in Rwanda, Congo and Tanzania. Vision Statement: Deliverance Church's Vision is to be:
¤ A church that worships God in Spirit and truth and open to the Holy Spirit for guidance.
¤ A church that seeks to understand the Bible and apply the Word of God on a daily basis.
¤ A church that teaches the Word in a simple and applicable way.
¤ A church that recognizes the sanctity of relationships and seeks to strengthen them.
¤ A church that cares for its members and wider community in the same way that Christ did.
¤ A church that values children and youth and integrates them appropriately in the church.
¤ A church that has a heart for the broader mission field work and seeks to reach out into regional and international territories.
¤ A church that supports the government of the day and does not compromise her divine role as the voice God in the society. Prevention Strategy
Deliverance Church is doing the following to cub the spread of HIV/AIDs:
Empowering and building the church capacity at all levels through HIV/AIDS awareness programs.
Make issues dealing with HIV/AIDS a high priority in the church agenda ensuring that it is streamlined, coordinated and included in all operations and hierarchy of the church system.
Encourage HIV testing among church members.
Promote total abstinence for the unmarried and faithfulness in marriage.
Promote condom use for married couples.
Address cultural practices and lifestyles that increase the risk of HIV transmission.
Prevent mother to child transmission of HIV. Care and Support Delieverance Church endeavours to do the following in respect to caring and supporting people affected or infected with HIV/AIDS:
¤ Provide care and support to those living with and affected by AIDS, showing love, compassion, mercy and empathy as well as meeting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
¤ Reach out to people living with HIV and AIDS as well as orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), widows, widowers, grandmothers, foster parents and commercial sex workers.
¤ Support for the marginalized and disadvantaged people.
¤ Enhance access to affordable antiretroviral therapy and treatment for opportunistic infections. |
Mission Statement:
"To endeavor to worship God in Spirit and truth, encourage and support individuals to grow, love and serve with the fear of the Lord, communicate the gospel clearly and relevantly raise and grow leaders in a relational manner to serve God and the community with compassion of Christ."
Church Involvement in HIV/AIDS Programs
Deliverance Church has HIV and AIDS awareness ministries that are reaching out to the in and out of school youth. The church organizes annual conferences that involve 4000 youths. The church is currently raising foster families who are able to take care of children orphaned by HIV and AIDS.
Stigma Reduction This is done by promoting and affirming the gignity, human rights, justice and value of life of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWAs) by breaking the silence and eliminating stigma and discrimination.
Advocacy Collaborate and engage in resource mobilization and partnerships with the National AIDS Control Council (NACC), National AIDS and STDs Control Program (NASCOP), Churches, Government Departments, Non - Governmental Organizations (NGO's), Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and International partners. Appoint coordinators at the national, regional and sub - regional levels of the church to spearhead HIV and AIDS initiatives. Provide a vote for HIV and AIDS intervention activities at every church level.
