| Evangelism
Did you know that to evangelize does not mean to share Christ and getting the results for yourself? To evangelize means taking the initiative to share Christ and leaving the results to God. Each one of us has been called to be a witness of Christ; we’ve been called to reach out to the world for Christ. Deliverance Church Nakuru has since its establishment based its teachings on the great commission, ". . . go ye therefore . . ." Matthew - 28:19 The Deliverance Church Nakuru was founded when Bishop Mark Kariuki chose to obey this great commission; to reach out to the unreached with the gospel; hence the motto ‘To know Jesus and to make Him known world wide’. Based on this motto, the Life Celebration Centre family has continually worked towards winning souls into the kingdom. Over the years, evangelism has been conducted on a one –on-one basis, door – to – door and even through conducting open air meetings in different parts of the city. In 1992, Open Air Meetings were officially launched at the Nyayo Gardens and would be conducted every week day between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Pastor Simon Rumba, the pastor in-charge of Evangelism at the Life Celebration Centre led a team in conducting these meetings. After sometime, the team moved from the Nyayo Gardens to the Lion’s park, right at the heart of the town’s CBD. Evangelistic meetings have continued throughout the city estates.
Results: Over the years, these meetings have continued and the result is an assortment of fruit that has remained. This fruit is two fold in terms of how those who have participated in this ministry have benefited and the souls that have been added into the kingdom.
1. Raising Leaders
Case in Point: In 1995, a friend introduced me to the evangelistic team, headed by Pastor Simon Rumba, at the Nyayo gardens. I was received very well and in less than a week I got a chance to testify. I continued attending these meetings on a daily basis and after a month, I was given a chance to preach. At first I was reluctant but through encouragement from the brethren in ministry, I accepted the offer. I’m sure I didn’t preach very well but after the session, Pastor Rumba encouraged me a lot and assured me that it was quite a good start. This built lots of confidence within me and I believed that I could make it. Since then I’ve been ministering with the World Changers’ Evangelistic Team. In 1996, I became one of the home church leaders’ in my home church serving as a possible leader. As the home church grew, it became necessary to start a new one in a different venue. I got an opportunity to serve in the new home church as the home church pastor. By the grace of God, I now serve as a zone pastor in my zone, overseeing six home churches therein. Besides being a zone pastor, I also serve as the leader of the Sons of Faith in the Life Celebration Centre, a position that I’ve held for the last two years. Over the years, I have seen God bless my life as I commit my life to serve Him especially in the Evangelistic team where one really needs to sacrifice over lunch time for the sake of the gospel.
For the period that I’ve served in this ministry, I’ve learnt this one truth, that it is not possible to out – give God. The more I give myself to His service, the more He blesses me. I joined ministry when I had no business, today God has blessed me with a good business where I operate my own spare shop and a workshop. They are both doing very well in Nakuru. To God be the glory!’
